Our ShelterBox deployed
Back in June of 2008, the Rotary Club of Glen Burnie donated funds for a ShelterBox. A ShelterBox is a small container designed to provide emergency relief for one family. It holds a tent for 6-10 people, a water purification kit, tools and utensils, plus either blankets or mosquito netting depending on where it is sent and other customized aid items.

Our ShelterBox, #5224, has been sent to Goma, in the Democratic Replublic of Congo, to aid those displaced by the ongoing civil unrest there.

ShelterBox, an international aid charity, has a goal of providing ShelterBoxes to one million people in Africa alone, plus relief throughout the world in response to natural disasters.

Now, in January of 2010 our club responded to the devastating earthquake in Haiti by sponsoring two more shelter boxes! Stay tuned for details as our boxes get deployed.

Conflict in the Congo has displaced many thousands of people. Heavy rains added to the problems for those displaced, bringing with it the increased threat of malaria and water-borne diseases.
