Becoming a Member - How To Join
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Rotarian. Rotary International is an association of individual clubs, with each club operating autonomously. Membership is extremely important to us, and we are always eager to hear from individuals interested in our mission and in joining our club.

Rotarians are business and professional leaders who take an active role in their communities while greatly enriching their personal and professional lives. A Rotary club contains a diverse group of professional leaders from the community that the club serves. Membership in a Rotary club offers a number of benefits, including:

Effecting change within the community
Advancing business and professional contacts
Developing leadership skills
Gaining an understanding of and having an impact on international humanitarian issues

Through Rotary International's service programs, a Rotary club can have a significant effect on the quality of life in its community. The programs of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International offer opportunities to form international partnerships that help people in need worldwide. Some 1.2 million Rotarians in over 30,000 clubs in over 160 countries make significant contributions to the quality of life at home and around the globe.

Information for New members

The Rotary Club of Derby was chartered on January 13, 1981 and now has over 60 members. The club meets at noon every Friday at the Derby Public Library Community Room. Several caterers provide food for the club lunches. The club's primary activities include fellowship, informative and entertaining speakers, occasional service projects and providing financial support to local, national and international causes.

The club is governed by an eight-member board of directors. Since the club's inception, over 30 different people have served as its president. The current president is Mike Harper. The club dues are $170 per quarter. This includes the cost of the weekly lunches, as well as a $25 donation to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, which finances many educational and humanitarian projects around the world, and a $10 donation to the club's local endowment fund, which provides college scholarships to graduating Derby High School seniors.

Each member is occasionally responsible for providing a speaker for a club meeting (in alphabetic rotation); this gives every member an opportunity to influence the type of program presented. Guidelines for speakers are provided to each new member.
