Hatari is
really excited that it is June and the 2008-09 Rotary year
is about over. You
could say that he is “jumping for joy” as he anticipates
that the fellow who
lives in his house will not spend quite so much time in
front of that
computer, or on the telephone talking about Rotary. That
means more time for
Hatari’s favorite pastime which is exploring the
neighborhood, also known as “going for a
walk”!!
June is Rotary Fellowships Month and at
first glance, one might think that that means that Rotarians are encouraged to
spend time with other members of their club. Not that that is not a great
idea, because it is, but the real emphasis is on the various Global Networking Groups
that are called Rotary Fellowships.
At the 2009 District Conference, Rotarians were moved as
they witnessed Irene Taylor Brodsky’s documentary “The Final
Inch”, which provided us insight into efforts to eradicate
polio in the north of India. You can view the 38 minute
HBO Oscar nominated documentary by following this link. "The Final Inch".

Memorial Gifts to The
Rotary Foundation
Ever wonder
how an individual can make a memorial gift to The Rotary
Foundation?
When
a person makes a memorial contribution, TRF will a send a
letter notifying the family or friends of the contribution
and a letter to the donor thanking them for the donation
and whether a letter was sent (sometimes we are not given
notification information). The donor letter is sent at the
same time as the notification letter and the amount of the
contribution is not included. The donor will still receive
the standard receipt/acknowledgement.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)
– Impacting the World
District
5100 RYLA graduates (RYLArians) improve our world with the leadership skills
gained at RYLA. Some RYLArians travel abroad providing humanitarian service and
their stories have moved Rotarians to action initiating projects to alleviate
malnutrition in developing countries. They are motivated and actively engaged in
their local communities. RYLArian teachers return to their schools to motivate
students to form Interact clubs. They volunteer in organizations that speak for
those who cannot – such as children in foster care and battered women. They
engage in their communities, start Rotaract clubs, and they become Rotarians.
