Club Service

The Avenue of Service known as "Club Service" focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the smooth functioning of the club itself. "Club Service" also includes some individual expectations of all club members, in order to assure that the club is vibrant and active.

Meeting Attendance

We expect you to attend at least 60% of regular weekly meetings, although 100% is the goal. At least half these meetings should be with our downtown club.

"Make-ups" for missed meetings can be obtained by attending committee meetings or by attending another Rotary Club anywhere in the world, within a period two weeks before and after the meeting.

Local clubs are listed in our club's Directory and web site, and other clubs can be found through the Rotary office, the Rotary International web site, or the Rotary International smartphone app. Remember, when going out of country or to a distant make-up, it is nice to present a banner from our club!

Request a leave of absence if planning to miss 4 or more consecutive meetings.

Club Activities

We also expect you to participate in Club activities, in the following ways:

  • Serving on committees and in leadership positions
  • Volunteering for special projects
  • Providing financial support.

The club work is done primarily by our many committees, which are listed in the Club Directory. We expect you to serve on one or more committees—and any of us here would be glad to help you identify committees that appeal to you. You are welcome to join almost any committee from the time you join the club; just a handful of these committees have an invited membership, so that the right mix of club and external experience is present. Those committees associated with Club Service include:

  • Attendance
  • Membership Development
  • Music
  • Badge
  • Invocation
  • Classification
  • 45 and Under
  • Entertainment
  • Sports
  • Fellowship
  • Program
  • Hospitality
  • Sparks
  • Visiting
  • Information/Yearling
  • Rotary Awards
  • Management Review
  • PowerPoint
  • Research and Development
  • Finance and Audit
  • Grant Development
  • Investment
  • Foundation
  • Centennial
  • Invocation

Other Expectations:

If you have not done so already, please attend an upcoming Rotary Quarterly Yearling Dinner, which is part of the Yearling process:

  • April 16, 2012
  • July 16, 2012.

Keep informed. The Sparksweekly electronic newsletter includes essential information, and you should separate receive email meeting reminders. You will also be receiving The Rotarian magazine, produced by Rotary International.

All Rotarians also have a responsibility to share the club with others and to help us grow by encouraging and proposing new members!

Some helpful hints:

The club web site, LouisvilleRotary.org lists upcoming meetings and other notices. You should have your password by now. You can also sign up with Fox 41's Snow Fox to receive text alerts from the club in the event of meeting changes (directions in Sparks).

A second Rotary web site, DaCdb.com, is used to develop individual profiles and send correspondence to fellow Rotarians. [Have you received information? If not, we will have the Rotary Office contact you...] We really encourage completion of the profile so others can learn about you.

Weekly luncheon meetings are held each Thursday in the Galt House complex, unless otherwise announced. Lunch is available beginning at 11:30, and the meeting bell rings at 12:15. The meeting is normally over by 1:00 p.m. A Rotary emblem is displayed on the side of the ground-floor bridge between the east and west hotels to designate which side the meeting is on that week.

We ask that you wear the Rotary Name Badge on the upper right shoulder to so that it can be easily seen when greeting and shaking hands during our meetings. You may use a name badge lanyard if that is impractical. Lanyards available from the Rotary office.

As you know, you are in a pre-paid lunch program. We have an automated sign-in process so ask the staff present if you have any questions. If you do not plan to eat, let the staff know so that the club is not charged for the meal.
