John Kenney, the 2009-2010 Rotary International President, has called upon all Rotarians around the globe to unite in our efforts to finish the job of ridding the world of polio. Only four countries remain in which all children have yet to be immunized against this terrible, crippling disease. Twenty years ago, when the Polio Plus campaign began, the goal of eradicating the world of polio seemed a daunting task. Now, we are on the verge of seeing that dream become reality.
Since being chartered in 1961, members of the Rotary Club of Clovis have participated in numerous international and community service projects, including work on Clovis Rotary Park, donating dictionaries to third grade students, annually giving away 500 food baskets during the Holiday Season, making Christmas stockings for convalescent home residents, partnering with House of Hope to construct homes for needy families in our community, constructing the Pirate Island exhibit at Roeding Park, and serving meals to riders and support teams during the 2009 Amgen Bicycle Tour, to name just a few.
The individual Rotary club is at the heart of Rotary International. At the Rotary Club of Clovis, our approximately 60 club members join together each February to put on our Crab Feed and Auction. The 2010 event will be the 20th annual. Last years event was attended by more than 625 people and no one went away hungry. I'm sure that this year’s event will be the biggest and most successful yet.
The theme for the 2009-2010 year is "The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands"
For our club members, I invite you to join me in making this an extraordinary year for our club.
For those of you who are not members, I invite you to join us in service, fun and fellowship.
Sincerely Yours,
Troy F. Brooks, President |
