2011 Event News:

The Rotary Club of Greenfield joined forces with the Fisher's Rotary Club in hosting a Wine & Beer Tasting Fund Raiser on April 16, 2011 from 6 to 10:00 pm at the Villas at Timber Run, located just west of the intersection of Meridian and McKenzie.

Proceeds from this event support the drilling of water wells in the impoverished country of Sierra Leone, which has struggled to rebuild its infrastructure after a decade long civil war. The West African nation ranks 179thout of 182 countries on the United Nations Human Development Index. In more than 60% of the communities throughout the country clean drinking water is not available leading to common water-borne illness and in many cases death, predominantly to children under the age of 5.Sierra Leoneans have an average life expectancy of 41 years, the sixth shortest in the world.

This year's event featured wine and beer tasting from State Street Exchange, Upland Brewery, Smith's Winery, Madison County Winery, Coopers Hawk Winery and Saint Germain Liqueur; homemade chocolates from The Original Good's Candies of Kennard and a variety of appetizers prepared by Bamboo Garden and BBQ'n Fools.There was also a silent auction.Musical entertainment was provided by Espen Jensen a classical guitarist.Festivities were held at both The Villas Club House and a special event tent.

One well costs approximately $5,000 to drill and build. The Fisher's Rotary Club with the help of other Rotary Clubs has installed 88 wells; Their goal is100 wells.
