Rotary Youth Service

Youth Service
Classic City Rotary projects and funding support numerous programs benefiting youth. We sponsor the Athens Academy Interact Club, an award-winning group of middle and high school students who perform great community service each year, including work on Red Cross blood drives, Habitat for Humanity, Athens Area Homeless Shelter, and other projects. Our club is proud to sponsor this great group of future leaders.
The Interact club took the lead on a project in Pallam, India to build and stock a school library. Our Rotary club donated several thousand dollars to the project and helped facilitate a Rotary Foundation Matching Grant. Both clubs have also worked together to bag food for Stop Hunger Now.

For other recent youth service projects, Classic City Rotary has:

  • Created (2000) and sponsored the Athens Youth Symphony
  • Provided Christmas presents for the Athens Community Council on Aging's program, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
  • Provided school supplies for JJ Harris Elementary School students, for students in Afghanistan, and to local children at the Athens Area Homeless Shelter and in the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program
  • Given welcome packets to international exchange students beginning their study during January at UGA
  • Donated thousands of dollars in support of Polio Eradication worldwide through Rotary International's initiative, "End Polio Now"
  • Hosted Brazilian youth orchestra "Pao de Acucar" playing at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music (2010) and the National Youth Symphony of Uruguay (2013)
