The Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships program is the world's largest privately funded international scholarships program. More than $462 million has been expended on 37,000 scholarships for people from some 110 countries, studying in 105 countries around the world. The purpose of the scholarships program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different nations. Scholars are expected to be outstanding ambassadors of goodwill to the people of the host country through both informal and formal appearances before Rotary and non-Rotary groups. Each scholar is assigned a host Rotarian counselor to facilitate involvement in Rotary and integration into the host culture. Rotary District 6510 normally has one scholar per year. The $25,000 scholarship is competitive and awarded to an individual that has a minimum of two years of college. The Rotary Club of O'Fallon sponsored Jordan Lee McGuire of Carterville, IL, as the Rotary District 6510 scholar for 2011. Jordan, a former Rotary Youth Exchange student to both France and Denmark, will attend Macquarie University in Sydney, N.S.W. Australia. He will pursue a master's degree in music.
